Announcements and Important Events
Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence. A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August-May each school year. At the end of the year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS coaching staff.
The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for October are:
Wesley VanHooser and Sophia Kirkton with Edward Jones Representative Rick Yoder.
-Sophia Kirkton: Sophia is the daughter of Todd and Allison Kirkton. She has two sisters Haley and Lizzy. Sophia is a defense specialist on the volleyball team. She also participates in tennis. Sophia has received the Beets Hoke Teamwork award twice for girls tennis and the Serve Receive Award in volleyball. She has a 4.11 GPA and is ranked number 13th in her class. Sophia is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society and church youth group. She is the treasurer for the National Honor Society. Sophia has been named a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete throughout her high school career for her hard work both in and out of the classroom. After high school, she plans on going to college to study occupational therapist and work with special needs students in elementary schools.
-Wesley VanHooser: Wes is the son of Brant and Angelia VanHooser. He has two sisters Brityna and Meggy and one brother Jamys. Wesley has participated two years of basketball. He won the Goshen Rotary Most Valuable Offense and was a team captain for the football team. Wesley was NLC All-Conference selection for football. He has a 3.40 GPA. Wesley has received the Kiwanis Scholar Athlete award throughout his high school career for his outstanding grades while participating in athletics. After high school, he plans to attend college to study finance and to participate in collegiate athletics.
