Congratulations to GHS basketball players Brynn Shoup-Hill and Drew Hogan on receiving statewide recognition this week for their outstanding play. Brynn, a junior, and Drew, a sophomore, were nominated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) for the Player of the Week Award.
In the RedHawks 55-50 win over 8th ranked SB St. Joseph on Saturday, Drew led the team in the upset with 28 points on 9-12 shooting from the field and 8-9 from the FT line, including 2-2 from 3 point land. He also had 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Drew hit the game tying shot as time expired to force overtime in a 70-59 win over South Bend Clay on Tuesday.
In Saturday’s 52-38 win over South Bend Adams, Brynn, a junior, broke a school record by scoring 36 points, including all 13 of her team’s points in the fourth quarter. The previous record was held by Marcy Bixler with 34 points in the 1984-1985 season. Earlier in the week, the 6-foot-3 standout tallied 15 points in a 30-20 win over West Noble and added six points and double digit blocks and rebounds in a 36-18 victory against Wawasee for the RedHawks (11-2).
For her efforts last week, Brynn was also named The Centier Bank Female Performer of the Week by Regional Radio Sports.
