Announcements and Important Events
Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence. A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August-May each school year. At the end of the year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS coaching staff.
The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Year Award are Colin Turner and Megan Gallagher.
-Megan Gallagher: Megan is the daughter of Kim and John Gallagher. She has one sister Maggie. Megan was the setter on the volleyball team. She has participated in girls basketball and volleyball for 4 years and track and field for two years at Goshen. Megan has received the Beets Hoke Teamwork Award, Captain, Most Improved, Most Assist, and Versatile Skills Excellence Award for volleyball. She has been named captain, Defense Award, Elkhart County.com Coaches Award, Beets Hoke Teamwork Award, Assist Award, Most Improved, and JV Award for girls basketball. Megan received the Nancy Moyer Freshman Award and captain for girl’s track and field. She is involved in Student Council, Student Athletic Council, National Honor Society, Women’s Empowerment Club, and Student Ambassadors. Megan has a 4.37 GPA and is ranked first in her class. She has been named a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete throughout her high school career for her hard work both in and out of the classroom. After high school, Megan plans to attend the University of Notre Dame to study biology in preparation to become a pediatrician. She plans on attending medical school after obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree.
-Colin Turner: Colin is the son of Heather and Shawn Turner. He has one brother Jake. Colin has participated in baseball during the past four seasons and is a three-time letter. He was named captain and NLC All-Conference for baseball during his senior season. He has participated in football for four years and boys basketball for two years at Goshen High School. Colin has received the MVP offense, Captain, NLC All Conference, Academic All-State, and was the top scholar athlete during his senior football season. He has been invited to the Academic Honors Banquet during his senior year. Colin enjoys hanging out with friends and family and mowing lawns. He has been involved in volunteering his time by helping to package food for Salvation Army, picked up trash at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair, and sponsored a family during the Christmas season. Colin was involved with Peer Assisting Caring Teens (PACT) mentor at Goshen High School. He has a 3.71 GPA. Colin has received the Kiwanis Scholar Athlete award throughout his high school career for his outstanding grades while participating in athletics. After high school, he would like to attend Manchester University to play football and baseball and majoring in psychology with his goal of becoming a school counselor and head coach in either football or baseball.
