The RedHawks grabbed a late lead in the final inning to squash Wawasee 17-8, winning their sixth straight. Goshen got started early by scoring three runs in the first inning. Wawasee scored 8 runs in the second and third innings to take an 8-3 lead. Goshen came back and brought the score to 8-7 headed into the 7th inning. Jocsan Sanchez doubled on a 3-2 count to take the lead in the seventh inning. Goshen kept pouring it on and scored 10 runs in the last frame!
James Troyer started on the mound and pitched three innings. Mason Schrock earned the win by pitching three innings, allowing only three hits and no runs. Sanchez closed out the game on the mound.
Goshen totaled 14 hits, led by Schrock and Sanchez with three hits each. Schrock hit two doubles, and also hitting doubles were Sanchez (go-ahead in 7th), Ezequiel Moreno, and Isaiah Park. Eight of the nine RedHawks in the starting lineup collected hits, and seven of the starters drove in runs. Sanchez, Moreno, Park, Roman Schrock, and Moises Gutierrez all drove in two runs for the RedHawks.
Goshen plays at Northwood on Wednesday, beginning at 5pm to wrap up their conference schedule. The final JV game will be played Thursday at Phend Field vs. East Noble.
