Strong pitching by the Goshen RedHawks was once again the key to opening the season 3-0. Mitch Daniels hurled 5 innings of 1 hit baseball surrendering a 1st inning solo homerun and no other hits. The RedHawks went on to win the game by a score of 7-1.
The RedHawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Nate Pinarski scored on a Colin Turner sacrifice fly. The RBI by Turner was 1 of 3 RBIs on the night. In the 2nd inning, the RedHawks were able to push another run across on a bunt from Adam Ellison that scored Noah Meikle.
The biggest inning for the RedHawks offense was the 3rd when Colin Turner drove in 2 runs on a double to deep right field. Later in the inning Meikle scored another run on a fielding error. That was all the offense needed to provide. Mitch Daniels pitched 5 innings, giving up 1 run and Jake Turner finished the last 2 innings surrendering 0 runs. Daniels and Turner combined for 11 strikeouts and 1 earned run.
After a busy 1st week the RedHawks will have some time off for spring break. They resume their season on Tuesday April 13 when they travel to Jimtown to take on the Jimmies. That game is scheduled for 5pm in Baugo.
